Signal Boost: Libby Dam Introduces Public Wi-Fi to Grow Visitation

  • Local Champion: Libby Dam Cooperative Association, Inc
  • Date Funded: August 23, 2022
  • Grant Amount: $2,500

Libby Dam offers one of the biggest recreational opportunities in the Libby area, but due to restrictions from COVID-19 and a lack of connectivity, the visitor center saw fewer guests over the past several years. And because the dam’s funding is tied to visitation numbers, fewer resources were allocated to the dam by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. To address this problem, workers at the Libby Dam are trying to make the visitor center more attractive to guests, and providing free Wi-Fi is one solution they hope will help. With a $2,500 grant from LOR, the Libby Dam will install a satellite and provide free public Wi-Fi—an improvement that could prove crucial to the future success of the dam and the surrounding recreation area.
