Lander Students Bring Home a Civics Lesson From the State Capitol

  • Local Champion: Elevate Academy
  • Date Funded: February 6, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $5,240

Nearly 200 miles from Cheyenne, students in Lander have relatively limited access to the state capitol, and as a result some kids lack knowledge about how the state government functions and how it impacts their lives. When a school administrator at Elevate Academy (formerly Cornerstone Christian School) recognized this problem, she brought forward a potential solution: send a group of students to Cheyenne for an immersive TeenPact training, then have them lead workshops for their peers back in Lander. To help make the idea a reality, she reached out to the LOR Foundation, which helped pay for six student training registrations and also helped purchase supplies for upcoming workshops, which will be held throughout spring 2023.
