Giving Santa a Spotlight Keeps Kids in Libby Safer

  • Local Champion: Libby Area Business Association
  • Date Funded: August 31, 2022
  • Grant Amount: $4,500

The annual Christmas tree lighting in Libby has grown year over year, with more than 900 children turning out last December to meet Santa Claus and celebrate holiday cheer at the end of Mineral Avenue. The problem, however, is that as the festival has grown, crowds of children and their parents have flooded into the street with heavy traffic. Members of the Libby Area Business Association brought forward a solution for this year’s event: move the tree lighting and visit with Santa to a safer space in Little Bear Park. The park doesn’t have any lighting currently, though, so with a grant from LOR the organizers will purchase equipment and supplies to brighten the space and keep kids safe.
